Ladies Football

Our minors made their exit from the championship after a very tough game against Boherlahan under lights in Clonoulty on Sunday evening. The opening chances fell to Boherlahan and after some near misses we settled to put some points on the board. Boherlahan however were now dominant and with two goals they raced on to a commanding lead. Moyle Rovers then had their best spell of the game as they fought back tigerishly and two goals from Kirsty Crotty Ryan and points from hard earned frees sent us in at half time in the lead - Moyle Rovers 2-10 Boherlahan 2-5. We had some good chances on the resumption but it was Boherlahan who soon found their rhythm and launched waves of attacks that yielded them the necessary scores to run out winners 5-13 to 3-15. On a wet and very difficult night for football our girls deserve great credit for the way they never gave up against a physically strong Boherlahan side. We were in a good position at halftime but Boherlahan came into the game and had an outstanding player in Orla O’Dwyer who tormented our girls with incisive runs. We were always dangerous on the break but in the end we had to give way to a stronger Boherlahan team. In goal we had some brilliant and courageous saves from Amy Norris who could not be faulted for any of the goals. Our backs of Rosin Breen, Cliona Collins, and Bronagh McGrath all played their hearts out. The half backline of Orla Burke, Louise Norris and Derbhile Fitzgearld showed great courage and determination against a strong and fast running Boherlahan half forward line. The centerfield paring of Emma Cronin and Cora Maher gave everything they had for the cause. Emma took a very heavy knock in the first half and Cora was forced to leave the field of paly from a heavy collision in the second half. On the half forward line Evrena Everard, Jenny Everard and Aine Fitzgearld worked very hard all through and we were unlucky not to score more from their efforts. Inside Rowena Dowling Kirsty Crotty Ryan and Eve Ryan did everything they could to secure scores. Replacements Emma Moore, Michelle Cronin and Hannah Mallekoote all worked hard when called into action. In reserve we had Lucy Holohan and Alanna Dowling. Final score 3-15 to 5-13.
