Our Juvenile Secretary Eileen Boland is embarking on her toughest challenge yet....a sponsored 24hours silence.
Eileen will begin on Friday night 15th February at 9pm and will stay silent for 24 hours until Saturday 16th February at 9pm.
Eileen is doing this to raise much needed funds for Irish Motor Neurone disease Association .
Motor Neurone Disease(MND) is a progressive Neurological condition that attacks motor neurons (nerves) in the brain and spinal cords. this means messages gradually stop reaching the muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting. MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat drink and breathe. However not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone and it is unlikely they will develope at the same time or in any specific order. As you can imagine the simplest of day to day tasks become impossible, things we all take for granted, be able to get out of bed, getting dressed, making a cup.
Eileen's Husband Charlie Boland was diagnosed with MND in the late 80's, the Boland family got to see first hand how awful this disease is and the amazing work IMNDA do to support their clients.
Charlie is a past president of our Club, and we all have memories of Charlie battling hard against this disease for so long, longer than most people. Charlie continued to support our teams and the club, attending the matches for as long as he could, even after he was wheelchair bound, and he would be very proud of our current successes.
When Charlie passed away in 2003, it was a big loss to our club. We all missed the Jeep on the Bank of every pitch in the South and further. Charlie is an integral part of our clubs history, so please do what you can to support this great cause.
For anyone who know Eileen, you will know how difficult a task this 24hours silence will be for her. Eileen will be paying a quiet visit to Monroe on Saturday - (time TBC)
