The senior team suffered an agonising one point defeat in the county semi-final against Cappawhite played in Dr Morris Park last Tuesday evening under lights. Moyle Rovers dominated the first half and were winning the key battles throughout the field. Rosin McGrath opened our scoring with a point. Kristy Crotty Ryan capitalised on a poor kick out and scored a goal. Cappawhite responded soon afterwards with a goal of their own to level up matters. We then enjoyed a dominant spell but some bad wides, a saved penalty and a crossbar rebound all adding up to an uneasy feeling about the outcome. Rosin McGrath added two further points and a Kirsty Crotty Ryan point left it 1-4 apiece at halftime. Moyle Rovers deserved to be well ahead at this stage but lady luck was nowhere to be seen. Cappawhite by contrast were very economical with their opportunities. The second half started well for moyle rovers and we opened a two point lead thanks to points by Kirsty Crotty Ryan after another surging run from Cora Maher. With points from Jenny Everard and Rosin McGrath we held our advantage. A Cappawhite free and a goal bought them back into the game and into the lead. Moyle Rovers to their credit fought back and levelled matters. Another Cappawhite free was directed towards goal and the ball was adjudged to have gone over the line following the referee’s intervention. Moyle Rover’s refused to surrender and fought back with two Kristy points. However it was not enough and despite some late sustained effort in front of the Cappawhite goal play was waved on and Moyle Rover’s ran out of time. Final Score Moyle Rovers 1-11, Cappawhite 3-6. Moyle Rovers were very disappointed with the outcome. This was a game that was well within their capability of winning. Missed chances, especially in the first half, proved costly. However they can look back on a great year for the team and reflect on good wins against Clonmel, Brian Borus, Templemore and Aherlow. On behalf of the club we thank the great efforts and sacrifices made by The Management team of Ian Browne, Ciara O’Donoghue and Brian Hickey. They gave it their all and can be very proud of their commitment and they had some very significant achievements during the year. Our thanks also to the team who represented the club at the highest level in Tipperary. They gave it everything throughout the year and had many fine displays.
