It what can only be descibed as Memoriable weekend for these young men, We have reached the County U21 "A" Football Final. Playing south Final and County Semi Final within 48hours and faced Extra Time in both. The determination shown by this group of players over the 2 games was fantastic to see, and let make sure we are all out to support them in the County Semi Final( watch Fixtures page for update on when County Final will take place.)

South Tipperary Under 21 A Football Championship Final

MOYLE ROVERS 1-11 CLONMEL COMMERCIALS 0-13

Moyle Rovers captured the South Tipp U 21 A Football Championship in dramatic style at Ardfinnan this evening with a late goal in the second period of extra-time to deny arch rivals Clonmel Commercials a record four-in-a-row of divisional titles.

The hero of the night was substitute Conor Bates, just on the field of play three minutes, who finished a fine move, to send the Powerstown/Lisronagh club home ecstatic and their town rivals crestfallen,

It was a result that looked impossible just a few minutes earlier when Commercials led 0-13 to 0-9 with just three minutes remaining in the fast fading light. But somehow, following two converted frees by midfielder Stephen Quirke, the Rovers were back within a kick of the ball and Commercials were left to protect the dreaded two-points lead.

Moyle Rovers substitute David Roberts then won a magnificent ball around the middle and began a move that culminated in Bates shooting low to the net to unbelievable scenes for the Rovers, beaten in the previous three finals by Commercials.

The sides were impossible to separate all night, and were level at both half-time (0-5 each) and full-time (0-9 apiece) with perhaps Rovers, who kicked 12 wides in normal time, the more likely winners. Just when it seemed their profligacy had cost them dearly, a late equaliser in normal times saved their blushes. And in extra-time it looked as if they had missed their chance yet again, until super sub Bates did the business at the death.

It was an exciting game from start to finish with the sides level no less than six times in the regulation hour's play.

Moyle Rovers perhaps with the share of possession they had in the opening period should have led at the break but two late points from Commercials by Conor McGeever and county senior Jack Kennedy left it level at the break.

Commercials came more into it after half-time and were 0-8 to 0-6 going into the final quarter, Rovers not helping themselves with a dozen wides over the hour. They fought back to level with nice points from Shane Lonergan and Stephen Quirke with three minutes remaining. However, it looked as if Commercials had made it four in a row with Paudie White's free with time almost up. But magnificently Diarmuid Mulcahy, on as a substitute for Darragh Bolger's black card, kicked an equaliser from 30 metres three minutes over time to force extra-time.

What had been saved would look lost in extra-time when Commercials got on top with four unanswered points to lead 0-13 to 0-9 with just three minutes remaining. But miraculously they snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with Conor Bates late late winner.

A first title since 2011 will make it not just a Good Friday but a Great Friday for the Rovers who are out again in a County Semi-Final on Sunday morning in Cashel against JK Brackens of Templemore.

County Semi-Final Moyle Rovers V JK Bracken

Heroic Moyle Rovers showed guts, hearts and mettle to claim a County u-21 FC 'A' final spot less than forty eight hours after securing the South title.

And they did it the hard way, needing extra time again to see off the plucky challenge of JK Brackens at Cashel on Sunday, winning 0-15 to 1-8.

It was a monumental display from the Powerstown-Lisronagh side. They dug deep to overcome archrivals Clonmel Commercials as darkness fell on Ardfinnan on Good Friday night and they achieved the same feat on Sunday.

And they can thank remarkable performaces from the peerless Stephen Quirke who was sublime; from Rian Quigley who put in a huge game; from Danny Owens who was a colossus; from captain Brian Norris; and other heroes such as Ciaran Luttrell, Jack Harney and Ian McGrath.

The Moyle Rovers team that beat Clonmel Commercials in the South Tipperary u-21 FC 'A' final on Friday night and then beat JK Brackens in the county semi-final less than forty eight hours later.

As cramp began to set in, they had barely fifteen men standing at the end. But as a team they stood tall.

Rovers management had to make changes from the South final but those who came in showed strength in depth at the club.

Yet they were slow to settle and were 1-3 to no score down after thirteen minutes, the Brackens goal from county minor hurling star Paddy Cadell and the three points from Shane Doyle frees.

Quigley from a free had Rovers' opener but they still trailed by five at the break, 1-5 to 0-3.

The South side had the benefit of a strong breeze in the second half and they soon  made it pay. They slowly ate in the Brackens lead until they were level at 0-8 to 1-5 by the 49th minute. As Templemore failed to score, Rovers had three pointed frees in a row from Quigley, Quirke with the score of the game from an Owens pass and Quigley from play to draw level.

But just when it looked like the lead was inevitable for Rovers, Brackens launched a blistering counter attack out of defence that ended with a sweet point from marksman Shane Doyle to regain the lead.

It now looked like all the hard work from Rovers was in vain until another Quigley free sent the game into extra time, 0-9 to 1-6.

And if anyone worried about tired Moyle Rovers legs in extra time, they need not have. After Quirke and Andrew Ormonde exchanged points in the first two minutes, they hit four without reply to lead 0-14 to 1-7 at the break. Quirke was fouled and pointed the free himself, then another from play and Quigley followed up with two great points.

The Templemore men needed a good start to the second half of extra time but instead it was Quirke who extended the Rovers' lead after Niall Bourke had pulled off a great save from a goalbound shot from Owens. And from there to the end Rovers played keep-ball with short passing and a late Brackens point from Ormonde was the only other score.

Moyle Rovers players and supporters celebrated another huge win over the Easter holiday. It proved to be a special weekend for the proud club

Juvenile

U6's -  

Our U6's enjoyed hurling training outdoors on Saturday morning   Players of the Week are Joshua Maher and Paulo James. Well done to both players.

U7's & U8's -  Training Tuesday and Friday 7pm - 8pm. 
 

U12's -

Our under 12's played St. Pats in Cloneen. We opened the scoring with a point from play from Luke Foley, it took a while to settle before our next three points from John Cronin.  Then we got a great goal from Brian Hurley to leave us 1-4 to no score at half time. John Cronin opened the second half with a point from play followed by 2 more goals from Brian Hurley. St. Pats then got off the mark with a goal from play.  John Cronin, Briain Morrisson and Conor Phelan all scored points from play and Brian Hurley scored another goal before St Pats stepped up again to score another goal. Briain Morrisson and Brian Hurley scored a goal each to finish off  on a scoreline of 6-9 to 2-0.

On Monday10th April, our second U12 team travelled to Ardfinnan for the next round of the Championship.  We started brightly with some lovely passing movements and only our finishing let us down. Ardfinnan took their chances when they arose and that was the difference at half time.  Again in the second half we started well,with Harry O'Keefe and Lucas Shiel playing well and James Killen on his first start with this team adding great endeavour.  A very resolute Ardfinnan defence kept out the great work of Peter Boland and Cillian O'Halloran, whilst at the back Michael O'Reilly and Davy Brennan ran a tight ship helped ably by Cathal O'Gorman.  Even though the result didn't go our way on the night, this team is developing really well, playing some nice attacking football.

U14's -

Our under 14's were out in the South Semi Final of the Feile na Gael tournament against St Marys. St. Marys opened the scoring with a free quickly follow with a point from play before Peter McGarry hit a long ball in from the middle of the field and full forward Daire Luttrell turn to follow flight of the ball and pulled on sliotars mid air and sent it to the back of the net. S.t Marys followed with a goal and a point before Daire Luttrell stepped up again to score his second goal. Dean English then score a point before St Marys got another point from free to leave the half time score 2-1 to 1-4. St Mary opened the second half with a point from play. Peter McGarry stepped up with a point from a play and a point from free. Killian Bulter worked tirelessly at corner forward to turn his player and put the ball over the bar. St Marys put on the pressure and our backline held out with great play from Gerard McGrath, Ciaran Condon, Riain O Halloran and Michael Buckley to keep them out before Dean English got another point to help us hold out on a scoreline 2-5 to 1-5. Well Done to all the South final against Carrick Swan which is down for the Sunday 23rd April.

 
Our under 14's also played Football championship last Thursday evening in Monroe against Cahir after the opening point from Dean English in the 3rd minute then we missed score after score while Cahir picked off some great points with our defense in Ciaran Condon and Michael Buckley clearing up. Cahir scored a penalty to give them a great lead before Peter McGarry score 2 points from play to bring us back into the game before half time with a score of 0-3 to 1-3. Second half Cahir opened the scoring with a point from a free  then our boys found the posts with some great points from Oran Ryan, Daire Luttrell and Peter McGarry.  Peter McGarry finally stuck for goal in the 17th minute and our lads opened the game up. TheN DC Hayes stepped up and scored a cracking goal to give us a great lead. Peter McGarry tapped over 2 more points to leave the final score 2-10 to   1-4.  

Ladies Football

The seniors played Cahir in their first league game on Wednesday evening in Monroe. The girls started brightly and were soon in the lead from a Gillian O’Brien point. Cahir then began to dominate with the help of the wind but drove wide on number of occasions. Moyle Rovers stayed in contention and rallied coming up to half time with a Gillian O’Brien goal followed by two points from Megan Shanahan which gave us the lead at half time by 1-4 to 0-5.The second half was a very even game. Cahir drew level and Moyle Rovers responded with a well taken goal by Megan Shanahan. Scores were hard to come by as both sides defended well. Leading by two points as the game entered injury time Cahir launched an attack looking for a winner. It took a smart save from Claire Moore to avert the danger before the referee called full time .Final score Moyle Rovers 2-7 Cahir 1-8. This was good lively game and a very good work out for both sides. The goals arrived at the right times for Moyle Rovers. It was very pleasing to see Niamh Lonergan play her first club game since injury last year.
